College Visits

 

The following colleges & universities have representatives scheduled to visit our campus. Students in grades 11 & 12 are invited to meet with the representatives to learn more about the colleges before making that final decision. (Students bring their Planners to guidance to sign up). (Students in grades 9 & 10 may attend if space is available).

Clay County College Night will be at Clay High School, November 8, 7-8:30 p.m. All students and parents are invited.

 

 National College Fair - The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) College Fair will be held Saturday, October 14, at the Prime Osborn Convention Center in Jacksonville. Over 125 colleges will be present and information sessions will be held on Bright Futures, Financial Aid, College Planning, Writing the College Entrance Essay, Historically Black Colleges & Universities. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) would like to invite students (grades 9-12) interested in the world of aviation to participate in a 7-session program on basics of flight, airport operations, aircraft maintenance, air traffic control and careers in the field of aviation. Testing Information

 

PSAT will be administered Saturday, October 21, 8:30-11:30 am, in the RHS Cafetorium. The cost is $15 and registration opens October 2. Juniors are encouraged to take it as the PSAT is the only way to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Competition.  Students in grades 9-10 may take it also. NOTE: A free PSAT practice test will be given Saturday, 9/9, 1-3:30 p.m. in Jacksonville. Please call 1-800-273-8439 to register.

 

A free SAT practice test will be given at RHS on Friday, September 22, 8:30 – 1 p.m. (Planning Day for teachers). Registration is now open in guidance. Space is limited so register today).

 

Notes of Interest for juniors and seniors:

 

Juniors will order class rings on September 6 & 7 during lunch periods in the Cafetorium.

A Parents Night for Ring Orders will be on September 7, 6-8 p.m. Deposit: $60.

 

Blood Drive will be at RHS on Friday, 9/29 from 8 am – 1 p.m. Identification is required.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The United States Jaycee International Senate Foundation. –  www.floridajcisenate.org – Value:$1,000; Applicants must show financial information, leadership positions held and extracurricular activities, honors & awards, employment history, references, transcript, & personal statement. Deadline: January 7, 2007

 

The 2007 SAE Engineering Scholarships – http://www.sae.org/students/engschlr.htm

These scholarships are for students majoring in engineering or a related science (including math, chemistry, physics, biology, technologies, & computer science).

Value: Varies Some of these scholarships are corporate sponsored  and may be used at multiple colleges. Some are university specific. Deadline: December 1, 2006.

 

The Council for America’s First Freedom National Essay Contest offers students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to compete for scholarships as they examine the First Amendment and the history and relevance of religious free in America and the world today. – http://competition.firstfreedomcenter.org/programs/studentcomp.html - The essay will address the question: “Is the constitutional protection of religious freedom as important today as it was in the past?”

 

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awards 250 achievement-based scholarships. Fifty of the awards are for $20,000 and the remaining 200 are for $10,000 (all are payable over a 4-year period). The applicant must be a well-rounded individual with a highly developed interest in their community.
