Council for American’s First Freedom National Essay Contest- http://competition.firstfreedomcenter.org/programs/studentcomp.html  Applicants, grades 9-12, write an essay as they examine the First Amendment and the history and relevance of religious freedom in America and the world today.  The essay will address the question:  “Is the constitutional protection of religious freedom as important today as it was in the past?”

 

22nd Annual Essay Contest on Ayn Rand’s Novel The Fountainheadwww.aynrand.org/contests  Essay will be judged on style and content, no fewer than 800 and no more than 1600 words.  See the website for topics.  Open for juniors and seniors.  Value $10,000 for first prize.  Deadline:  April 25, 2007

 

Florida Retired Educators Foundation Scholarship – Applicants must be interested in teaching.  Value will start at $500.  Deadline:  January 12, 2007  (Applications are in guidance)

 

First Coast Technical Institute Tech Prep Scholarship – Applicants must have participated in a Tech Prep program of study, must train at First Coast Technical Institute, GPA of 2.0 or higher, with a 3.0 or higher in the career/tech program.  Deadline: April 7, 2006 (Applications are in guidance)

 

St. Johns River Community College Tech Prep Scholarship – Applicants must enroll at SJRCC, have a GPA of 2.8 or higher and a 3.0 or higher in the Tech Prep program. Deadline:  April 7, 2007  (Applications are in guidance)

 

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation - www.mcsf.org  Applicant must be a son/daughter of a Marine on active duty, in the Reserve, retired or deceased. Value from $500 to $10,000.  Deadline:  March 1, 2007

 

Florida Association of State and Federal Educational Program Administrators – Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, contribution to society, and financial need.  Value $1,000.  Deadline:  February 2, 2007 (Applications are in guidance)

 

United Automobile Workers of America Scholarship – Applicants must write an essay on “What Organized Labor Means to Me” not less than 300 and no more than 500 words. Value $400 to $1200.  Deadline: March 28, 2007 (Applications are in guidance)

Florida Swimming Pool Association Merit Scholarship – Applicants must be a dependent of an owner or of an individual who has been an employee of a Florida swimming Pool Association member, GPA of “B” or better.  Value $25 to $1,000.  Deadline:  January 19, 2007 (Applications are in guidance)

 

Leonard Voyles of Clay County Scholarship Fund – Applicants must be seeking a degree from Florida State University, GPA of 3.5 or higher.  Value a minimum of $750.              Deadline:  April 1, 2007 (Applications are in guidance)

To receive financial aid, first you must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  You can get the FAFSA from the US Department of Education’s website at www.fafsa.ed.gov (can be filed after January 1, 2007).  Worksheets are in guidance.

 

Next, you should contact the financial aid office of the school you are planning to attend for more participation and eligibility information.  The school plays a key role in determining the amount of money you could receive.
